Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative comments from others annihilate his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his success. He admits to making blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
