Seems like most folks are always talking about pre-flop technique, so I would like to speak a little bit about how I bet on after the flop. Maybe I can assist others, or perhaps they have advice to improve my play.
I believe that two of the most crucial plays soon after the flop are the semi-bluff and the defensive bet. That is because these are the plays you make when you havent hit a hand but you’ve got a fine drawing hand. Its easy to bet on a hand once you flop a monster. But I feel that these 2 are the finest methods to wager on a drawing. Each one is wagered depending on you challenger(s) and your postion. So here’s how I play it, so tell me what you think.
Early Placement – Tight Opponents:
A semi-bluff works fairly well in this position. Appear out gambling and if a tight gambler did not hit a hand he will probably lay down, and if he is unsure you may perhaps receive a call. But watch out, if that tight gambler comes back over the best it might be time to receive away.
Early Placement – Loose Competitors
This is were I like to perform a defensive wager. Come to a decision how a lot of chips you are willing to risk on your draw and bet. It is usually a much lower bet than regular. It’s been my experience that the loose player will usually just call a wager instead of re-raise. Even so, should you check to them, theyre far more likely to throw in far more chips than your willing to pay.
Late Placement – Tight Opponents
That is the very best time to perform a semi-bluff, especially if most of the table checks. If that’s the case you’ll probaly pick up the pot now. If a gambler prior to has bet, you’ve got to decide if he has a hand or not. If not, then reraise and he’ll probably go away since he was attempting to steal the pot. In case you believe he does, properly then it is time to calculate your odds, and come to a decision if the pot odds are worth the call.
Late Placement – Loose Opponents
This one is really a bit tricky, because it is more difficult to put a loose player on a hand. And if your in late location against loose gambler, chances are they’ve already bet. It is had been I usually determine to take a chance and appear back more than the best of them and hope they don’t call, and if they do, properly then its time to gamble. Odds are though even a loose gambler will go away in case you come back strong enough.
Keep in mind although that these are moves I only produce following the flop comes and I have a reasonable drawing hand (usually not a gutshot either). Maybe 4 to the flush or the open ended straight, for instance.
