Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He started competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
