Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from others kill his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
