In Advance of a Tilt
August 22nd, 2025 by Mason

Ah, the steam. If a poker gambler claims never to have looked over the shadow of an approaching poker tilt – they’re either lying or they haven’t been playing long enough. This does not indicate of course that everyone has gone on tilt in the past, a number of people have excellent willpower and carry their squanderings as a hit and keep it at that. To be a strong poker gambler, it’s extremely important to treat your successes and your losses in a similar manner – with no emotion. You play the game the same way you did after taking a tough beat like you would after winning a huge hand. Many of the poker pros are not charmed by tilting following a bad defeat as they are highly seasoned and you really should be to.

You need to be aware that you won’t win every hand you are in, even if you are the front runner. Hands that usually make people go on tilt are hands you were the favorite or at a minimum thought you were until you were hit and you lost a big chunk of your stack. Awful losses are going to develop. Face that reality right now, I will say it again – if your sister plays cards, if your parents enjoy cards, if your grandparents play cards – They have all had bad losses at some point. It is an unavoidable effect of competing in Holdem, or for that matter any kind of poker.

Since we are assumingly (almost all of us) in the game for one reason – to earn cash, it does make sense that we would wager accordingly to maximize winnings. Now let’s say you are up one hundred dollars off of a 100 dollars deposit, and you suffer a large hit in a NL game and your bankroll is down to one hundred and twenty dollars. You have burned $80 in a round where you should have picked up $200two hundred dollars when you went all-in on the flop and had a ten to one edge. And that fish! He banged you out on the river? – Well stop right there. This is a classic opportunity for a new bettor to start tilting. They basically blew too much $$$$ on one round that they really should have won and they are angry
